Parish Service of Thanksgiving with Bishop Christopher

Horley Team Ministry welcomed Bishop Christopher to preach and preside at their celebration, on the completion of the refurbishment of the Spire and Tower Oaks Shingle Replacement and subsequent repairs required, after a year of surprises with other wooden oaks beams needing to be replaced.

All eight Bells rang out over the Parish of Horley in celebration; the first time since the pandemic.  We celebrated with the Town Mayor Martin Saunders and his family along with other councilors and dignitaries and many from the local community.

Many from the local community gave their time with events performances and the children also did sponsored walks and silences. One person in particular made this all happen because of their generosity, giving four large donations, three at £40.000 and one at £20.000.  These donations were all gift aided.  Others also donated and we received grants.

We were also given a hand crafted gift from Sue of a stained glass ornament she made  especially for this occasion.

Bishop Christopher also commended all those who gave their time and helped fund the project as he knew what the cost was as he a similar project when he was in a parish setting.

St Bartholomew’s is a Grade 1 listed building, and dates back to 1218 when the very first rector was recorded. The present-day Rector Rev’d Canon Les Wells, wishes to say “thank you” to everyone who has taken part in this restoration, especially to the local community and our neighbours.

The skyline looks great in God creation.

1 Kings 5:5  I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.’

Today we build the temple in the name of Jesus Christ, so that we have a constant reminder that God is ever present in our lives.
